Milk production is steady to somewhat tight in areas of the Northeast
region. Many market participants report no tolling or cream salvage
taking place. Some producers communicate receiving just enough milk
loads for regular production. Southeast milk production is stable as
the region is generally in good balance. Some Southeastern parts have
additional milk due to transit complications. Cream multiples are flat
to 1.17. Cream has been available around the East. Industry contacts
communicate there have been transportation issues that are affecting
routine hauling schedules. Condensed skim market conditions are steady
to weak as some producers are offering condensed loads at discounted
prices. According to the DMN National Retail Report-Dairy, for the
period of February 9-15, 2018, the U.S. weighted average advertised
price for the half gallon pack size milk was $2.00, up 73 cents
compared to last week, but 42 cents lower from last year. Northeast
region's weighted average advertised price for the half gallon pack
size milk was $1.46, 54 cents below the U.S. average.
