Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 02/14/2018

Receipts: 603 Last Week: 3,625 Year Ago: 1,791

Compared to last sale: Feeder cattle scarcely traded last week due
to the blue ribbon two sale, thus no trend is available. Feeder
cattle sold on moderate demand for light offerings. Buyers were
forced to pieced together loads and picked through offerings as
offerings were light. Several larger groups of backgrounded cattle
were met with mostly good demand. These cattle were in mostly moderate
flesh. Quality this week was average to attractive. Market activity
was slow to moderate. Weigh up cows sold on mixed demand for light
offerings. Packers purchased cows on light to moderate demand to start
the sale, however as the sale progressed demand improved to mostly good.
Slaughter cows sold unevenly steady on boning and lean cows from 2.00
higher to 2.00 lower. Breaking cows sold mostly 3.00 higher in a narrow
comparison. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested to trend, however
higher undertones were noticed. Feeding cow demand continues to be
light as slaughter cow buyers continue to purchase cows above the price
level feeding buyers are wiling pay. Feeder cattle offerings were 53
percent steers and bulls, 47 percent heifers with 68 percent weighing
over 600 lbs. Offerings consisted of 57 percent feeder cattle, 27 percent
slaughter cows, 2.5 percent slaughter bulls, 9 percent feeding cows and
bulls and cows returning to the country, balance bred cows and heifers.
The next sale will be Feb 21nd, 2018.
