Hurricane season is here again and then came Hurricane Michael. Many areas have been
affected, from the Florida panhandle through the Carolinas and Alabama. Georgia has
some significant damage. Growers are now in the orchards accessing damage. The number
of trees downed has not been determined. The areas around Albany, GA were hit very
hard and flooding throughout the state continues through today. Pawnee had just hit
the markets with a promising crop, but harvest has been curtailed at this time until
the orchards are ready to have machinery come back in and go to work. Most of the work
to cleanup the debris and fallen trees will be by hand until the growers can ensure
that the pecans on the ground are protected, including the trees that need assistance
before shaking the pecans. Stuarts are expected to be ready soon.

Most of the shellers and accumulators are not yet open for business and should be ready
by October 15. Door sales are very slow to start and prices are just now getting quoted.
Growers with large lots in volume are waiting to see if the market will have an upswing
before offering their pecans for sale. Some will be headed to the cold storage until
prices increase or the market settles.

Prices paid to growers (end of September through October 11, 2018) at buyers delivery
point or F.O.B. the orchard including direct sales to end users, cents per pound in-shell
